Understanding Shapes and Their Properties for Kids

Shapes are all around us! Look around—your book is a rectangle, your ball is a circle, and your sandwich might be a triangle! Let’s learn about some common shapes and their special features.

1. Circle

A circle is round and has no corners or sides. It looks like a wheel or a pizza. Circles are great for learning about rolling things!

2. Square

A square has 4 equal sides and 4 corners. All its sides are the same length. Think of a dice or a window—that’s a square!

3. Rectangle

A rectangle also has 4 sides and 4 corners, but two sides are longer than the other two. Your book, phone, or door is shaped like a rectangle.

4. Triangle

A triangle has 3 sides and 3 corners. It can be tall or wide. Pizza slices and traffic signs are good examples of triangles!
